Invincible Presents: Atom Eve
While on the team at Terrible Posture Games, I had the opportunity to design and animate the UI for Skybound’s new visual novel title ‘Invincible Presents: Atom Eve’.
I was responsible for designing all UI elements and icons, building the layout in UMG within Unreal Engine and bringing the UI to life with material effects and animations. I worked closely with the programming team to ensure the UI behaved as desired.
Screen Layouts
The art direction for this UI was bright, dynamic and we wanted to create a nice blend of a modern-feeling UI with the comic book nature of the art. Many of the elements were inspired by Eve’s pink powers and a thoughtful touch of halftone throughout the UI tied everything together.
Eve’s skill tree was an interesting challenge. The design team wanted three main branches with a few abilities that required unlocks in multiple branches. The solution for this was also based in Eve’s powers - her ability to manipulate matter. We laid out the abilities and traits like they were on an atom diagram. The player starts near the nucleus where they can see how many points are available and work their way out through the shells/orbits. Abilities that require multiple branch unlocks are located on the same shell/orbit in between the required branches.
